Blink Outdoor camera review
Blink outdoor camera
Blink Outdoor ($99.99) is another reasonably priced weatherproof camera, but this time with 1080p video and support for Alexa voice commands and IFTTT applets. While cloud storage requires a subscription, you can store video locally, view it on demand, and communicate with visitors via two-way audio.
Is the Blink outdoor camera a good investment?
Blink’s security cameras offered excellent value for money and placed fourth overall in our ratings. They are all compatible with Amazon’s Alexa and IFTTT, a web-based automation platform (If This, Then That). The Alexa integration lets you stream live video, play recorded clips, and arm and disarm the camera using your voice. Additionally, you can be notified of motion via your Echo speakers.
The battery life of Blink outdoor cameras is up to two years, which is the longest of any camera in our ratings. Since this estimate is based on light use, your mileage may vary. However, it is still impressive and allows you to place the camera wherever you want without worrying about charging or replacing the batteries frequently.
Local storage of Blink Outdoor security camera is also an excellent feature, as it eliminates the need for monthly fees and allows you to securely store your video in your home.
Blink includes some features that other security camera companies charge for every month. One of these is customizable activity zones, which allows you to restrict motion alerts to specific areas. You can arm and disarm the cameras remotely or via the mobile app, but you must do so for all of them simultaneously; there is no option to turn individual cameras on or off.

If you’d rather store your video in the cloud, you can sign up for one of Blink’s Cloud Storage plans after purchasing Blink Outdoor security camera. The Fundamental plan is $3 per month or $30 per year and includes 60 days of rolling storage for one camera. How to set up blink outdoor camera?
The Blink outdoor camera was simple to set up and install.
After a short firmware update, the Blink outdoor camera was ready to be set up. I attached the mounting base to a post on my backyard deck then snapped the camera onto the base.
In testing, the Blink outdoor camera produced crisp, colorful daytime video. There was some barrel distortion, but it was minimal and had no effect on the overall image quality. The nighttime black-and-white video appeared relatively sharp up to about 10 feet but became muddy beyond that. Motion alerts arrived promptly, and false alarms were infrequent. Additionally, I had no difficulty viewing video via Alexa voice commands on an Amazon Echo Show.
